Upcoming Event: Speech by Wharton Professor Eric K. Clemons, Thursday, July 22, Shanghai
20100722

Dear alumni,

We are very pleased to present you a speech given by Professor Eric K. Clemons, Operations and Information Management and Management of Wharton to be held on Thursday July 22.

Professor Clemons will pay a visit to Shanghai this month. Taking this special opportunity, we're honored to invite him to give a talk on "Changing Consumer Behavior and Changing Corporate Strategy in Consumer Goods: Recent US Experience and Possible Implications for China". American shoppers now enjoy an unprecedented range of choice in most consumer products. Where once the soft drink category was mostly made up of sodas from Coke and Pepsi, there are now thousands of choices of bottled waters, juices, specialty iced teas, and energy drinks. Although it looked as if Americans would be forced to choose between beers from either Anheuser Busch or MillerCoors, there are now literally tens of thousands of specialty craft beers and imported offerings. In ice cream, coffee, bread, health foods, produce, cheeses, and snacks the choice has never been wider for the consumer and the margins have never been better for producers. Why is this happening? What has driven the changes in consumer behavior and how have these changes altered corporate strategy? More interestingly, what do these changes tell us about the future of consumer products in China? (For details, please click here)

You are cordially invited to join us in this get-together to discuss and share the latest thoughts with the master and generate a meaningful discourse. Please note the following event details. Please also feel free to bring friends there. We're looking forward to your coming!
